Varicose Veins in Men.

A common misconception around veins is that only women are affected. However, the truth is venous disease does not discriminate. According to current research approximately 40 percent of men in Australia suffer with varicose veins at some point in their lives.

Often presenting for treatment much later and with their veins more severe than women. Puts men at greater risk of ulceration and the permanent skin damage that follows advanced varicose veins. Frequently men are not so concerned about the visual appearance of their legs therefore are less likely to be proactive about seeking early treatment as their female counterparts.

Here in Queensland, we buck the trend - at our clinic we see comparatively more men than other major city clinics. This is probably due to the fact that Brisbane’s sunny climate allows for wearing shorts year-round and participation in sport is high, so men do not have the opportunity to keep their legs hidden.
