Women's Business?

There are many factors that predispose a person to venous disease. It is not just down to genetics (although that does play a major role). Varicose veins and spider veins are seen more often in women than in men.

Some of the factors that can put the ladies more at risk are:

Weight Gain: Excess weight and obesity can put an additional load on your venous system. The extra pressure can cause valves in the veins to fail sooner.

Hormones: During puberty, pregnancy and menopause women can often develop more noticeable veins due to changes in the production of progesterone and other key hormones.

Immobility: Sitting or standing  for long periods can be a requirement of many female dominated vocations think hairdressing, teaching and nursing. Immobility forces the veins to work harder in order to return blood to your heart.

Age: as your body ages the venous system can weaken for example elasticity in the vein walls can decrease leading to veins that begin to bulge more noticeably.
